The forecast called for early morning clouds, so I got to Tunnel View before sunrise. Usually, an early arrival means avoiding the worst of the hustle and bustle. Not this time, though. Photographers lined the overlook, tripod to tripod. No reservations to enter the park this year, and the crowds have already been gnarly. #yosemite #tunnelview #yosemitevalley #yosemitenationalpark🌲

Firefall season without the fire. We were back in

Firefall season without the fire.

We were back in Yosemite for our annual trip and Valentine’s weekend. Fewer tripods than I remember from past years. More camp chairs and phones. The glow never really showed up, but Yosemite still delivered.

Icy Merced River Puddle (BTP)

Landscape photography is often about layers. Foreground, midground, background and everything in-between. A problem I find in Yosemite is that there are too many layers. There is simply too much awesome happening. There are many distinctive layers visible in this setup photo... and the crazy part is that those background trees aren't even the background layer. In the end I don't think this photo was a success and that's due mainly to having too many layers... too much awesome going on.
